On 11 of August, we participated in the Ascent conference, a meeting that gathered experts and world working leaders to know which challenges are propound in regard of teleworking.
Among the points discussed are those related to the corporate culture, employee’s wellbeing and talent capture.
The conference was organised by Oyster HR,an Employer of Record. If you want to know what an EoR is, you can read all the information in our Wikipedia of Teleworking. At the beginning of the day, the impact of remote working and the opportunities that this model has for companies and employees were discussed. Among others, it allows companies to access a larger pool of workers, create diverse teams and have a social impact. For workers, it allows them to have greater freedom and flexibility in their work. In addition, remote working reduces pollution caused by unnecessary commuting.
In terms of the challenges to be overcome, a panel of experts addressed the following issues:
- The time difference of the teams: having a decentralised team can make it difficult to create a corporate culture, which is why it is important to have regular team meetings.
- Corporate culture: given the relocation of workers, it is proposed that meetings be held at different times so that all workers can attend at least once every two years and that the meetings be recorded so that they are accessible to the whole team.
- Ensuring leadership: the company's leaders must show the company's mission, vision and values and must be in tune with each other. They should be the reference points for all teleworkers, being accessible to all teleworkers.
- Take care of the well-being of remote workers: working remotely can generate stress, anxiety, burnout or impostor syndrome due to the difficulty of separating the personal environment from the work environment. Taking care of the mental health of remote workers should be the responsibility of companies and they should make their employees aware of this, so that they feel good at their workplace.
These are just some of the challenges identified around remote working, but the evolution of this working model is constant, so this phenomenon must be addressed at all times.
